no more spotify
so recently spotify came to the decision to ban me from using their artist-friendly platform for free. as an iranian who rejected apple products and tends to use android since you can pirate everything easily, i was using a hacked version of spotify for almost three years which was truly convenient and i had this privilege to bully my friends who had to pay for the subscription. good ol' days. however, unfortunately the days of anti-capitalism have come to a closure and now i can't use it anymore. yet I found a replica that shows the albums and playlists but when you click on play, it goes rogue and only plays every song for one second (which is exactly around the same amount of time I could listen to every song on the last drake project {nokia was a banger though}). These days i'm just downloading the songs on my telegram album by album and listening to them in that order which is really enjoyable since i'm experiencing an album in a very “album-ish” way. it's weird though how we “playlist” albums nowadays by picking up our favorite tracks and calling it a day. at this moment i'm thinking it feels like separating your favorite scenes of the different movies and merging them. weird.
but yeah it’s fun to listen to albums in this way. i'm basically stealing the art from the artist by paying no money to any organization which makes me feel bad but at the same time, i don't think spotify giving them more. see, this is the moral conflict i'm going through. am i a modern arsene lupin? am i a less successful version of drake? (i promise this is the last drake joke) i suppose I’m a thief and that's why i promote the artists i like in a very bold and loud way so maybe i can return the money in this way. for example, i've been wearing kendrick lamar and gorillaz shirt whenever i'm going to class or a party which are the best demographic for people who might enjoy. i also have a brat shirt which i wear it only in my room because i don't think chinese people (news flash: I live in shanghai) are really into charli xcx and "being a brat student" is the last thing i want my supervisor or any professor think of me.
anyway, i feel much better about what i'm doing with my robbery of the century and i hope father john misty who i just finished downloading half of his catalogue while writing this text, will feel the same way.
